So far, 2024 has already been a pretty big year for snow (and predictions of snow) in the UK. In January alone we had several big warnings for the white stuff, ranging from a light dusting at the start of the month to a mammoth ‘wall of snow’ and ‘deep freeze’.

And winter chills ain’t going away any time soon. Forecasters are now predicting that a a whopping 20cm of snow could be chucked down on huge swathes of the country this week. From today (Wednesday February 7) to Friday (February 9), yellow and amber warnings are in place from the Met Office for both snow and ice.

The first yellow warning will be in place for snow and ice in the far north of Scotland, with the Met Office urging the public to be wary about icy patches on roads and pavements. That warning will last from 4pm today until 10am tomorrow (February 8).

There are then several amber weather warnings in place for tomorrow (February 8). North Wales, Shropshire, the Peak District and south Pennines are all expecting a decent amount of snow. The Met Office says that there may be power cuts and that there is a ‘good chance’ rural communities might be temporarily cut off. That amber warning will last until tomorrow afternoon.

On top of that, a yellow warning for snow will be in place for much of England, stretching from Birmingham up to the Scottish border, while Northern Ireland has another yellow warning for snow and ice. Both of those warnings are in place until 6am on Friday February 9.

That snow will then push further upward into Scotland, leading to even more yellow weather warnings throughout Friday. Those are in place until 6pm on Saturday (February 10).

Be careful out there! You can check for up-to-date weather warnings on the Met Office website here.
