Here’s something you don’t see every day: a property has gone on the market in Wales that comes with its very own cell. Once the home of a prison warden in the Monmouthshire market town of Usk, the building has a room in a basement with bars on the window. A sort of dungeon, if you may.

Obviously, we don’t condone anyone using the cell for its actual purpose, but fortunately the property has much more to it than its quirky basement. Called Crown House (or Ty'r Goron), it was originally built in 1825 for the warden of Usk Prison. These days, it’s a rather lovely family home near the centre of one of Wales’s most desirable towns.

The property includes five bedrooms, a study, a kitchen-diner, living room, utility, garage and conservatory. It’s reasonably modern, too, with neat furnishings and swish sash windows out the front.

Here are a few pictures of Crown House, cell ‘n’ all.
