Old-fashioned windmills are an iconic sight on a British landscape. Huge, spinning reminders of another time, they used to do stuff like pump water and grind grain. These days they aren’t used quite so much – they mostly just sit there and look very, very beautiful.

If you’ve ever wanted an entire windmill for yourself, now’s your chance. One of the UK’s largest windmills is for sale. Located in Lincolnshire, it’s 200 years old, called the Maud Foster Windmill and is on the market for just £650,000 – well below the average price of an entire house in London.

Now, we know what you’re thinking: but can you actually live in a windmill? Well, the answer, it turns out, is yes. This particular windmill comes fitted with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sizeable living area. It’s nicely finished, too, with lots of bare brick and characterful paintwork.

Built in 1819, the Maud Foster Windmill is 80 feet tall and boasts five huge sails. It towers over the town of Boston (nope, not that one) and both its tower mill and its granary are Grade I-listed structures. It still works as a windmill, too – just in case you were wondering.

In other words, it’s quite a catch. Here are a few pics of the Maud Foster, in all its glory.

While £650,000 will get you the windmill, if you’re willing (or able) to splash out £998,800 you’ll also be able to buy the five-bedroom Mill House attached to it. It’s all being sold by Bruce Mather estate agents – you can find out more on the official listing here.

Did you see that this massive holiday home in Edinburgh has been named one of the best in Europe?

Plus: you can now stay in Ed Sheeran’s old tour bus.
