JetBlue paid passengers every time a baby screamed: Happy Mother's Day

It might as well be a universal truth that babies are the goddamn cutest. But if you stick one of the precious little pants-poopers on an airplane, well, that universal truth is tested from points A to B and fellow passengers tend to get pretty annoyed. This week, it was JetBlue to the rescue. Sort of.

The airborne ire for babies is understandable—after all, being trapped in a pressurized room with a bunch of strangers for hours on end is terrible even without the squeals of a tiny person as background music. The experience of flying with a baby is undoubtedly worse for the parent wielding the child, though. They get a front row seat for any crying bouts or diaper spills, and receive obnoxious glares from other childless flyers.

In a pre-Mother's Day stunt for the ages, JetBlue tried to get passengers excited about the idea of wailing infants. On a recent flight from New York to Long Beach (typically a six-hour trip), the flight crew announced that every time a baby on the plane cries, the passengers would receive a 25 percent discount on their next flight with the airline. Four cries later, everyone aboard scored a free JetBlue ticket, and the passengers aboard applauded in celebration.

Don't expect to get a free flight out of your next trip on JetBlue, though—this stunt was a one-time thing. In any case, it was a pretty adorable move from the airline, and it'll hopefully make jetsetters a bit more tolerant of in-flight babies.
