A chunk of Netflix's longest-term customers should start practicing their Titus Andromedon eye-bulges—they may need them when they see their Netflix bills next month.

The streaming company is set to raise the price of its standard subscriptions for 17 million customers—about 37 percent of its American subscribers—who up to now have been shielded from price hikes.

Netflix has been raising its standard subscription price for new customers since May 2014, but holding the price flat for those who joined before that date. But Business Insider reports that in May, those grandfathered customers who now pay $7.99 a month for Netflix's standard plan will begin paying $9.99, just like the rest of its customers.

BI reports that about 80 percent of those set for the price increase had no idea it was coming.

Even with the price jump, Netflix remains cheaper than rival Hulu, which charges $11.99 a month. Amazon Prime remains the most affordable of the big three streaming services with a yearly fee of $99.
