Exciting new hotels for 2024

Opening: January 2024

Between 1939 and the late 1960s, the Dew Drop Inn hosted a slew of iconic Black musicians (think: Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Marvin Gaye and Etta James). The former music venue has been reimagined as a stylish 17-room hotel set to open in January. The design-forward property will feature Art Deco and midcentury modern design elements, and each guest room will pay homage to a musical or cultural icon who left a mark on the inn through art, photographs, artifacts and other ephemera. There’ll also be an on-site pool, bar, patio area and a 410-person music venue.

Opening: February 2024

The 36-story Thompson Houston boasts a central location beside the 160-acre Buffalo Bayou Park, offering a calming reprieve from the city’s bustling downtown area. The 172 guest rooms and suites are set to offer floor-to-ceiling windows for top-notch park or skyline views, mid-century modern fabrics and textures, and sleek hardwood floors. Additional hotel highlights include a contemporary seventh-floor lobby area; a one-acre rooftop green space complete with a sparkling swimming pool, cocktail bar, and lounge; an entire floor dedicated to wellness with a tranquil spa, salon, fitness center and indoor and outdoor relaxation areas; and two chic eateries. Oh, and did we mention it has its very own heliport?

Guests can lounge out in the lobby and breezy plant-filled courtyard area—think: one-part bar, one-part all-day lounge—before retreating to one of the serene rooms and suites, all offering plenty of natural light plus fun pops of green. An 82-foot-long swimming pool and adjacent bar will also be done up in millennial pink and flanked with greenery. The wellness center, chic Italian restaurant, and swanky lobby bar are all added bonuses.

At the heart of the property, guests will find an interior courtyard, while the chaise lounge-lined outdoor pool area will serve as a popular gathering spot in the warmer months. Accommodations will range from studios to two-bedroom suites, and some are set to have private terraces. Standout amenities will include a lounge-slash-coworking space, a bar, a sauna and a Mediterranean restaurant.
