JAŸ-Z is going deep in a new eight-part documentary coming out this fall.

In JAŸ-Z IN 8, Rick Rubin, the co-founder of Def Jam Records, who helped launch the careers of hip-hop legends like Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys, sits down with JAŸ-Z to discuss his music, the lyrics he’s written, his life experiences and his creative process.

You can watch the teaser trailer, which is in black-and-white, here.

In the trailer, JAŸ-Z talks about stepping up on his soapbox to articulate the experiences he and his peers went through growing up: “The pain, you don’t say it’s necessary, you don’t say you need it, but if it’s there - you use it,” he says.

It’s executive produced by Shawn Carter (JAŸ-Z), Daniel Kaluuya and Rick Rubin with producers Leila Mattimore and David Rohde.

Rubin recently directed the highly-rated documentary with Paul McCartney, McCartney 3,2,1, so there’s cause to be excited when it debuts on HBO Max. There’s still not a premiere date, but we’ll update you when it is announced.
