Gather round, dear readers! Another Lady Whistledown Society Papers is out and it’s got the hottest tea: there’s a new Bridgerton spinoff coming to Netflix and it’s a prequel about Lady Violet and her romance with the O.G., Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.

Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes will return to co-write, show-run and executive produce the new romantic drama series with Nicholas Nardini.

Netflix shared the news on social media on Thursday, October 8, spurring thousands of excited comments.

“The love match that started it all shall be soon yours to see, dear reader,” the Whistledown-themed post reads.

Here's everything we know about the upcoming Lady Violet-focused Bridgerton prequel.

What will the Lady Violet Bridgerton prequel be about?

The show will be based on the novella, Violet In Bloom, by Bridgerton series author Julia Quinn.

In the original Bridgerton series, Violet (played by Ruth Gemmell) is a devoted mother to eight children but is recently widowed, as her beloved husband Edmund (Rupert Evans) died 10 years before the events of the main series begin.

It’s not until the most recent season, season 4, that Violet finds herself falling in love again with Lord Marcus Anderson, played by Daniel Francis. Before their saucy sex scene, she memorably utters the most incredible line: “I am the tea.”

If that’s any indication what her romance will be like with the young Viscount Bridgerton, we are in for a whole freakin' tea service!

Who will play Lady Violet in the Bridgerton prequel?

It’s currently too early to know who will play her younger self in this latest spinoff, as Netflix hasn't yet made any casting announcements, but Connie Jenkins-Greig played the role of young Violet in the previous Bridgerton prequel, 2023's Queen Charlotte. It is unknown whether the English actress will reprise the role in the new series.

Queen Charlotte director/executive producer Tom Verica, who will return in the same capacity for the Lady Violet prequel, told Deadline earlier this year that existing Bridgerton characters are getting the Queen Charlotte treatment with more spinoffs in development.

Pinkies up! Get ready for the piping hot tea.

When will the Lady Violet Bridgerton prequel be released?

We don't yet know when the Lady Violet-focused prequel will arrive on Netflix, especially since the streamer only announced the project today. But we'll definitely be keeping you posted on any and all developments in the Ton.

Earlier this year, season 4 premiered at No. 1 on the Global English TV list and reached the Top 10 in 92 countries, so the appetite for Bridgerton is still as intense as ever. Coming up in 2027, season 5 will follow Violet’s third daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd), who recently lost her husband, as she falls in love with her husband’s cousin, the bold heiress Michaela (Masali Baduza).

Bridgerton Season 6 has already been greenlit.
