For 10 years, Perry’s sarcasm and quick-witted jokes as Chandler Bing charmed the world via the hit NBC sitcom Friends. There was no one quite like him—on and off the screen. (Really, could he be any more loved?) When the actor died from an accidental overdose in October 2023, it shocked and saddened fans. Premiering on October 27, The One About Matthew Perry, the first in-depth documentary about the late TV icon, will attempt to answer that question, while honoring his life and career.

Directed by Emmy winner Mary Robertson, the intimate, three-part Netflix docuseries will feature insights from Perry's close friends, family and collaborators, according to the streamer. We’ll hear from Perry’s sister Mia Perry Bowick and his lifelong best friends, see previously unreleased photos and videos from the Perry family’s private archive, and learn about his journey from rising comedic star to his beloved role as Chandler Bing. We’ll also hear new “candid” details about his private struggles with addiction.
“It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life—to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction,” Bowick said of the upcoming doc, per Tudum. “As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be, and the work to which I’ve devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved. I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind.”
The One About Matthew Perry premieres on Netflix on Tuesday, October 27.
