At the end of this month, Avatar: The Last Airbender fans will finally get what they've been waiting for for 18 years—a film by the show's original creators.

Paramount+ just announced that it will premiere Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender on its streaming service on July 25, instead of October 9, and dropped the trailer on social media:

The new movie follows Avatar Aang, now a young adult, as he learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands. It was directed by Lauren Montgomery, Steve Ahn and William Mata with voices by Dave Bautista, Steven Yeun, and Eric Nam, among others.

It's a dream come true...almost. Earlier this year, Paramount announced that it would ditch an October 9 theatrical release for the film and instead stream it on Paramount+. According to Entertainment Weekly, the decision resulted from leadership changes at Paramount following its merger with Skydance in August 2025.

Fans believe it deserves to be in theaters, especially after the long wait and enduring multiple insufficient spinoffs and live-action remakes. After an uproar about their decision, fans were hit with another blow: a hacker leaked the entire film online, spoiling the release for many and upsetting those involved in its creation.

But if you have been patient, you can catch it on July 25 on Paramount+. There are two plans to choose from—Essential ($8.99/month) and Premium ($13.99/month)—but you can start a seven-day free trial on the Premium plan if you just want to see the movie.

While it's not how fans would've liked to see and celebrate their favorite show, it's still worth the hype.
