Barnes & Noble just announced its most-anticipated books of the fall

Here are 22 book titles you'll want to put on your TBR list.

As we delightfully devour our beach reads and summer titles, readers are keeping an eye on what books we’ll be reading this fall.

There are so many releases coming this fall—from the new ACoTaR to The Sixth Faction in the Divergent series—that it’s a bit overwhelming. When building our TBR lists, we want to know what’s worth the time and what people will be talking about.

Barnes & Noble already released a list of its most-anticipated books for fall 2026, and we’ve gone through and organized them by release date, starting in late August, when most of us will be returning from vacation or settling into our fall routines. Each one has a B&N synopsis.

Here they are:

1. Witch Hat Atelier: Grimoire Edition 2 by Kamome Shirahama

A deluxe, three‑volume collection of the acclaimed fantasy manga with bonus content by Coco discovers her destiny amid magic and dragons. Publishing on August 25.

2. Big Little Truths by Liane Moriarty

"A return to the world of Big Little Lies: a decade later, the mothers now face parenting teens while old choices and secrets resurface." Publishing on August 25.

3. The Birthing Tree by Amanda Peters

"A tale of memory, tradition, and loss following one woman’s sweeping effort to protect the past’s legacy while building a brighter future. Publishing on September 1.

4. The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig

"The next chapter in Gillig’s romantasy: visions, prophecies, slow‑burn romance and peril as Sybil faces fate and faith." Publishing on September 1.

5. Under Story by Chloe Benjamin

"A biologist’s attempt to escape a painful past is upended when a scientific discovery bends time and memory, offering a chance at love and healing." Publishing on September 1.

6. Taipei Story by R. F. Kuang

"A witty, moving coming-of-age story about a young Chinese American woman uncovering family mysteries while discovering herself." Publishing on September 8.

7. Big Bad Wolf (Maple Hollow, Book 1) by Laurie Gilmore

"The first book in a small‑town paranormal romance series: secrets lurk in the forest of Maple Hollow and one encounter changes everything." 

8. Exit Party by Emily St. John Mandel

"A dystopian tale set in a future America where society is crumbling; a man’s disappearance at a house party sparks a bewildering mystery." Publishing on September 15.

9. Hollow Bones by Jodi Picoult

"A moving story about protection and grief: Molly Fitzgerald confronts new challenges that make her question everything she believed." Publishing on September 15.

10The Thoroughbreds by Elin Hilderbrand & Shelby Cunningham

"The second Tiffin Academy installment: senior‑year drama, secrets and gossip intensify in this mother‑daughter boarding‑school series entry." Publishing on September 15.

11. We Chase Shadows by Richard Osman

12. Murder at the Grand Alpine Hotel: The New Miss Marple Mystery by Lucy Foley & Agatha Christie

"A new Miss Marple mystery (from Lucy Foley, drawing on Christie’s sleuth) set at a luxurious mountaintop resort where a body is discovered." Publishing on September 22.

13. Hollywood, Ending by John Green

"A tender love story from John Green set against the underbelly of the entertainment industry." Publishing on September 22.

14. Heated Rivalry (Deluxe Edition) by Rachel Reid

"A steamy enemies/romance about two hockey rivals in a secret relationship by a deluxe edition tied to the hit streaming show." Publishing on September 29.

15. American Hagwon by Min Jin Lee

"A multi‑generational saga of a Korean family (the Kohs) navigating love, ambition, obligation, and betrayal across continents."  Publishing on September 29.

16. Ply by Hernan Diaz

"A futuristic novel exploring technology, connection, and transformation as centuries‑future society reshapes human relationships to the world." Publishing on September 29.

17. Partita by Barbara Kingsolver

"An expansive story about resilience and the power of music, following a pianist who confronts ghosts from her past." Publishing on October 6.

18. Other Worlds Than These (The Talisman #3) by Stephen King & Peter Straub

"Dark worlds collide as Jack Sawyer faces cosmic threats by a long‑awaited installment merging The Talisman and The Dark Tower universes." Publishing on October 6.

19. Peck & Peck by Bonnie Garmus

"A charming, funny novel following a young man who finds community and purpose after joining an unconventional NYC poetry journal." Publishing on October 13.

20. Off the Reservation by Stephen Graham Jones

"A bloody revenge tale set on the reservation: Nate Yellow Tail seeks lost bones and stumbles into something far more sinister." Publishing on October 13. 

21. Look What the Cat Dragged In by Jason Rekulak

"A spooky comic‑mystery about a pet‑sitter whose cat turns sinister, prompting belief in evil forces." Publishing on October 13.

22. A Court of Thorns and Roses 6 by Sarah J. Maas

The much‑anticipated sixth book in Maas’s ACOTAR series, returning readers to Prythian for another grand fantasy adventure." Publishing on October 27.
