The 'Rick and Morty' universe expands on July 26.

If this administration’s got you riled up, you may find some solace in a forthcoming mad cap comedy from the creators of Rick and Morty. The new spin-off show, called President Curtis, debuts on Adult Swim this month and it’ll give the absurdity of today’s politics a run for its money.
Remember Spider FDR and the French assassin hidden in the Statue of Liberty in Rick and Morty? There will be more madness to come. According to Deadline, its creators Dan Harmon and James Siciliano started development on President Curtis when MAGA first came on the scene and President Donald Trump’s political force really started up.
“We started writing this three years ago and we thought things were wild then,” Siciliano tells Deadline. “Things have progressed everywhere, and so we just had to commit to making this show about President Curtis and try to create a version of that guy who is the most fun president to watch.”
The series, starring Keith David, Stephanie Beatriz (Twisted Metal) and Jim Rash (Community), develops President Andre Curtis into a more interesting and likeable guy than who he’s been in Rick and Morty. He’s a “natural-born leader who just wants to make America safe for everybody” whose “strong corner is fighting werewolves, vampires and Paul Bunyan," Harmon tells Deadline. “He’s a very charming guy, but he doesn’t think diplomacy works or that he is doing his best job when he is trying to kiss ass.”

While President Curtis will be up to insane things, it won’t be political, Harmon says. The animation doesn’t lend itself to political relevancy, at least not to the standard of South Park. And who wants to compete with that?
“But especially because of times being so weird, it feels like we’re doing some kind of West Wing homage,” Harmon says.
If you’re expecting to see a crossover of universes, it’ll happen once, they reveal. Rick and Morty make an appearance once and that is all, but you’ll have to watch to find out when and how it happens.
