It won’t be just any Monday, it’ll be Met Gala Monday!
May 4 is fashion’s biggest night, when celebrities show up and show out on the red carpet. The 2026 Met Gala is set to be one of the best yet—the theme for the night is “Fashion is Art” and is meant to reflect the idea of “costume art” and how designers use the body as their blank canvas, according to Vogue.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, which is the beneficiary of the gala, will open its accompanying spring exhibition on May 10, called "Costume Art.” According to the museum, the show will examine the “dressed body” as a constant across more than 5,000 years of global art, with around 200 objects from the museum’s collection as well as historical and contemporary garments. It’ll be organized into thematic body types, including the naked body, the classical body, the pregnant body, the aging body, the anatomical body and the mortal body. They’ll showcase how artists and designers have shaped, abstracted or confronted the human form.
It’ll be fascinating to see how celebrities, their designers and stylists interpret the theme and how close (or far) they come—and for a good cause. The event raised about $31 million for the museum in 2025.
