After shuttering in 2021, Cleveland’s Cedar Point roller coaster Top Thrill will relaunch bigger and better than ever next year. Back in 2021, the ride was closed after a park guest was severely injured while waiting in line for the coaster. The ride was promptly closed, but the park has since worked with a new manufacturer to add to and improve the popular ride.

Now touted as Top Thrill 2, the coaster will launch riders up to 420 feet in the air, hitting speeds over 120mph at its fastest point. The triple-launch roller coaster sends riders both backwards and forwards throughout its track, and is designed like a drag-racing strip. While it boasts both top height and speeds for a triple-launch coaster, Top Thrill 2 is the second tallest strata roller coaster (just behind Six Flags’ Kingda Ka) overall, and the third fastest coaster in the world behind Kingda Ka and Ferrari World’s Formula Rossa.

“It’s another one-of-a-kind that could only be built at Cedar Point,” stated vice president and general manager Carrie Boldman. “Top Thrill 2 will be the boldest and most advanced roller coaster Cedar Point has ever introduced.”

And whether the prior mishap has you concerned, thrill seekers can hopefully rest assured that the subsequent revamp and change in manufacturers will set your mind at ease.
