Romantasy favorite 'Fourth Wing' is officially coming to Prime Video

One of BookTok’s favorite romantasy titles is being reimagined as a TV show.

Amazon MGM Studios officially ordered a series adaptation of Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros series, and it’ll stream on Prime Video.

Soon, we’ll get to watch Violet venture into a new world and meet the dragons (and their riders) who’ve captured our imaginations since the book debuted in 2023.

Here’s what we know about the forthcoming Fourth Wing TV show:

What is Fourth Wing about?

Fourth Wing, the first book in The Empyrean series, follows 20-year-old Violet Sorrengail, who is ordered by her mother to enter the brutal world of Basgiath War College. She joins hundreds of candidates in their quest to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

The book was followed up with Iron Flame in November 2023 and Onyx Storm in January 2025.

Who is behind the Fourth Wing show?

Meredith Averill (The Haunting of Hill House, Locke & Key) is the showrunner and executive producer. Author Rebecca Yarros will also serve as an executive producer. Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo executive produce via Outlier Society. Jonathan Nolan, Lisa Joy (who will also direct the pilot) and Athena Wickham will executive produce via Kilter Films. Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark will executive produce via Premeditated Productions.

When will it come out?

There’s currently no information about when it will be released. It has already been pushed off once—it was first put into development in October 2023 and stalled until last September, when Averill joined as showrunner following the exit of the original showrunner, Moira Walley-Beckett (Anne With an E creator and Breaking Bad writer).
