Movie lovers may soon be starring in their own romance, thanks to upcoming speed dating events for cinephiles.
Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas just announced a partnership with CitySwoon, a cloud-based, algorithm-powered matching service with IRL speed dating events. And in February, love is coming to a theater near you.
In select cities, including Los Angeles and Sacramento, Cinépolis' lobby bars will be transformed into date spots to help singles mix and mingle with other film lovers while sipping movie-themed cocktails, small bites, and more.
"We're excited to bring a dash of Hollywood romance to the real world with our unique speed dating events at Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas. Our goal is to blend the magic of cinema with the thrill of meeting someone special, creating an unforgettable experience that goes beyond the screen," said CitySwoon CEO Brett Couston. "In a world where love is often blocked by digital interfaces, we're offering a chance to connect in a more meaningful way, surrounded by the timeless charm of the movies."
Tickets to these events start at $19 per person for CitySwoon members and $39 per person for non-members.
To enroll, create a CitySwoon profile online and sign up for your preferred events to meet algorithm-informed 10-minute mini-dates over the course of two hours. And, of course, if you hit it off with someone, you can go to the movies or securely message each other through the CitySwoon platform the following day.
The cinematic meet-cutes, however, seem exclusive to opposite-sex couples. Though CitySwoon offers the option of searching for "gay" events, only "straight" events are currently available in each city.
