“Slow Horses,” starring Sir Gary Oldman, is officially returning for season 8

A new mission has come across our desk and it’s not busywork—it’s a new season of Slow Horses.

Yes, after taking home its third Emmy this past Monday, September 14, Apple TV's acclaimed spy drama has officially been picked up for an eighth season. If you, like us, are a bit confused on the ongoing schedule of the series, here's a quick cheat sheet: Slow Horses season 6 premieres on the streamer today, September 16; production on season even is currently underway in the UK, with a targeted release window set for 2027; and season eight is expected to follow swiftly behind with a fall 2028 release.

In case you've missed it, the British spy thriller adapts Mick Herron's Slough House novels. It's a dark and dryly humorous drama that follows "washed up" and "failed" MI5 agents led by Jackson Lamb (played by Sir Gary Oldman) who defend England against its enemies. The first five seasons have a Certified Fresh score, with seasons one and two receiving a rare, perfect 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The fifth season alone earned nine Primetime Emmy nominations, including acting nods for Oldman and co-star Jack Lowden, plus a big win in the Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series category for Saul Metzstein. 

As mentioned, the sixth season of Slow Horses kicks off its six-episode run today, but it's a joy to know that we've already got a seventh and eighth season ready to race out of the gate. 

In season seven, Lamb and the gang will be on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of the British Government before they can bring down the state. Season eight will be adapted from Clown Town, the ninth novel in Mick Herron’s Slough House book series, in which Lamb and Diana Taverner face off in their most explosive confrontation yet. “When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all,” Apple says.
