You read that right. Taco Bell has finally launched its first fully vegan entrée after years of tasting, testing, and tasting again. Like its non-vegan counterpart, the new Vegan Crunchwrap features a proprietary blend of vegan seasoned beef, topped with cool vegan blanco sauce and warm vegan nacho sauce. The new menu item will be available in cities with “notable” vegan populations, including Los Angeles, New York City, and Orlando, beginning June 8 for a limited time.

“Such a large part of our fandom is vegan or vegetarian, and we’re as committed to them as they are to us and our menu,” explained Liz Matthews, Global Chief Food Innovation Officer at Taco Bell. “We wanted and needed to get it exactly right,” she continued. “That’s why we took so long, months and years, to release something this special.”

The Vegan Crunchwrap will also be filled with classic ingredients like shredded lettuce, and diced tomatoes, and encased in a crunchy tostada shell. It will also sell at a comparable price to Taco Bell’s signature Crunchwrap, varying by local market. This limited-time run is meant to gauge customer feedback and inform future menu developments.

Taco Bell is no stranger to plant-based diet options. The chain already offers over 30 vegetarian ingredients that can be combined in myriad ways to create the ideal Tex-Mex meal. The Vegan Crunchwrap is just the latest in Taco Bell’s expanding offerings catered to a global clientele. Taco ‘bout innovation!
