Picture this for you: sitting by a large picture window overlooking the waterfront, watching the waves in a bit of trance, knowing you’re in one of the most luxurious rentals in the country. It can happen! Just, you know, keep an eye on your wallet. And use your birthday money. And skip that daily latte. Ready to see these beautiful, eye-popping places? Here are the top three most expensive beachfront rentals in the US, as calculated by Floridapanhandle.com.

Surprisingly, the most expensive one is in a landlocked state that we usually think of more as a desert stay than a waterfront one—Nevada. At Villa Harrah in Glenbrook, you can expect to pay $15,000 a night through Airbnb (wait a minute, isn’t that pretty much a downpayment to own a house in some states? But if you’re willing to spend that in a single night, you probably already own multiple houses). What do you get for that? Well, access to, and views of, one of the world's most beautiful lakes: Lake Tahoe. This home sits atop Zephyr Cove and thanks to its walls of windows, you can feel like you’re actually floating on the water. The house has six bedrooms, a full cinema, a spa with hot tub, sauna, salt room (no pepper room?), and even a nail and hair salon. Lake Tahoe can be chilly for swimming in summer and parts of it ice over in the winter, so there’s a pool, as well as a private pier to walk out onto the lake for spectacular vistas. And yes, there’s a sandy lake beach for warmer days. Best of all? The rental comes with a live-in caretaker.

The second most expensive one is Villa Salt Acres in Stonington, CT. Available through VRBO, this six-bedroom home is perched at the land’s end, surrounded by more than eight acres of green grass. It has 600 feet of curving sandy beaches and coastline, replete with a private 450-foot jetty and floating dock. There’s a tennis court and pool, and all the interiors contain white walls or fixtures to complement the seaside views out the windows. The master bathroom, in particular, is a marvel of glossy white tile, mirrors, and arched entry to soak in the clawfoot bath as you take in the Atlantic Ocean vista. This home averages $8,929 a night.

Finally, the third on our list is Clapboard Island Estate in Falmouth, ME. This private rental is located a stone’s throw from the rugged coast. Established in the 1800s, the home has welcomed many US presidents as visitors—and you’re not just renting the house, you’re renting a private island. It comes with six beaches, a separate picnic island that you can only reach by a low tide sandbar, a deep water dock for your (doubtlessly impressive) yacht, a 200-foot fishing pier, 22 acres of walking and jogging paths (and you can venture onto the abutting 15 acres of conservation land) and the chance to book a lobster bake with the add-on concierge service. Other surprises will please the visitor, like an antique teahouse. The price isn’t listed on the website, only by inquiry, but according to our original source, it rents for $11,000 a night.
