With people booking their summer vacations left and right, it’s always wise to stay up to date on the latest prices so you can book accordingly. Thankfully, CheapAir.com recently published a study analyzing 128 million airfares in cities across the United States so travelers can avoid the priciest airfare destinations. The study showcases what destinations have increased flight prices the most and by how much. Unfortunately, the trend for increasing flight prices is steep, with a 17% increase in airfares overall since 2022.

Here are the top 10 cities in the United States with the largest increase in airfare in 2023:

  • Flint Michigan, 35% increase
  • Akron, Ohio, 32% increase
  • Dayton, Ohio, 30% increase
  • Greensboro, North Caroline, 28% increase
  • Tucson, Arizona, 25% increase
  • Burbank, California, 24% increase
  • Miami, Florida, 23% increase
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico, 23% increase
  • Fort Myers, Florida, 22% increase
  • Minneapolis, Minnesota, 22% increase

One thing these cities all have in common—they are smaller cities that offer fewer daily flights on limited airlines. To increase your chances of scoring a less expensive flight into any of these areas, CheapAir.com suggests either flying from a larger nearby airport or booking your travel as early as possible.

However, if you find yourself traveling to Oakland, California, or Boston, Massachusetts, you’re in luck because these two destinations had the lowest airfare increase this year at just 10%. Regardless, it’s always smart to plan ahead and monitor flight prices to score the cheapest deals possible.
