Ready for a fun trip? A new study ranks the most fun cities in America. And unsurprisingly, Sin City comes out on top.
WalletHub compared over 180 cities across the country to rank the most fun destinations, particularly regarding budget. With the average American spending over $3,400 on entertainment annually, the budget site aimed to showcase cities where you can get the most fun for your buck.
The analysis looked at 65 key metrics, including movie costs, average business hours of breweries, fitness clubs per capita and more. The ranking is quantitative, not qualitative, that is, it focuses on where Americans can get the most fun and entertainment for their money, not necessarily the best entertainment.
At the top of the list: Las Vegas, which ranked first for entertainment and recreation and at the top for nightlife and parties. The variety of activities and lax liquor laws are also to blame for the high level of fun.
“Las Vegas, the most fun city overall, naturally has the most casinos of any city. For those who aren’t gamblers, Vegas has an especially high number of music festivals and music venues, as the city is renowned for its performers,” said Cassandra Happe, WalletHub Analyst. “Sin City is an especially attractive place for partiers, given that it’s one of the only cities that allows public drinking in most or all places, and it has a very late last call.”
Next on the list are Orlando, Miami, Georgia and San Francisco. Coming in sixth is New Orleans, followed by Austin, Chicago, Honolulu, and New York City in 10th place.
Of course, everyone's idea of fun is different and some may prefer Milwaukee, where the average price of beer is lowest nationwide, or Fargo, North Dakota, where the average cost to see a movie is just $6.24.
