Hey bestie, want to sound a little more Gen Z? This new map of the most popular slang in every state hits different, so you can keep it 100 and definitely not sound like a cheugy boomer with this on fleek vocab.

Crossword Solver analyzed the most popular slang in every state, nerding out by digging into trends of terms used by gamers, crypto enthusiasts, couples, hip-hop fans and Gen Z. 

"While much of the U.S. Gen Z slang landscape is a patchwork, there is a definite lean towards finna in southern states," the data reveals. And there's a good reason for that. Finna, evolves from the southern African American Vernacular English (AAVE) phrase, “fixing to,” which means “gonna.” Finna learn some more? Minnesota's Gen Z tweeters and talkers are using "basic" the most, with young adult Kentuckians opting for "slay." 

The East Coast, which has some of its own dialect, is a fan of "simp", the most popular Gen Z slang in New York and New Jersey. Connecticut is all about "on fleek" and Pennsylvania is "cringe" as is its neighbor, Ohio. Wyoming "hits different" as does Maine and Kansas, while Midwestern states trend to use "basic" the most. 

Overall, Finna and simp are the most common Gen-Z slang word in six states. And in every generation, cutie is the most common slang word for a romantic partner in nine states across the country. Boo, wifey and shorty are also up there, with bae as the top boyfriend or girlfriend slang word in Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, New Hampshire and South Carolina.
