Getting to Tulum is about to become so much easier. The first ever international airport in the area, Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO) in Tulum, Mexico, is slated to open in 2024.

And with news of the new travel hub, Spirit Airlines just announced two new direct routes, which will start just in time for spring break.

Spirit Airlines will fly direct from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) and Orlando (MCO) to Tulum starting on March 28, 2024. Flights will depart daily, and rates start at just $149, including taxes and fees.

"Tulum is an increasingly popular choice for leisure travelers, and our direct flights from Florida will make a getaway to Mexico's enchanting coastline more accessible than ever, just in time for spring break," John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines said in a news release. "We have a long history of serving Mexico, and Tulum's new airport is a great addition that will make it easier for our Guests to get to the city and enjoy its beaches, history, and variety of unique experiences."

Those coming from elsewhere can also take advantage of a one-stop option to Tulum on Spirit Airlines via 53 cities across the U.S.

While more carriers to the new Tulum airport have yet to be announced, Delta also recently announced a direct flight from its home hub in Atlanta to takeoff on March 28. Delta’s daily Atlanta-Tulum service will operate on a 160-seat Boeing 737-800, offering First Class, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin options throughout the year.

“Delta is uniquely positioned to give customers convenient and direct access from the U.S. to Tulum, a premium leisure destination known for its boutique hotels, Mayan ruins and eco-friendly spirit,” said Joe Esposito, S.V.P. of Network Planning at Delta. “We know Tulum-bound customers will enjoy the elevated experience Delta consistently offers—and now without a two-hour drive from Cancun – as we grow our footprint in Mexico and throughout the Yucatan region.”

Currently, the easiest way for international travelers to reach Tulum is by driving two to three hours from the Cancun Airport, so a travel hub in town will make the Mexican paradise even more accessible.
