Today is the winter solstice, which apparently will also be the worst day of 2017

Happy shortest day of the year, America!

Today, December 21, is the winter solstice—the shortest day and the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere.

What that means in practical terms is that the sun will stay up longer and longer each day, slowly but surely ushering us towards spring. Let the countdown begin.

But today is special in more ways than one: According to astrologers, December 21 will actually be the absolute worst day of 2017 because the sun will pass in front of constellation Capricorn just hours after Saturn does the same—their orbs will line up for the first since 1664 and that's... not so good?

According to astrologer Neil Spencer's latest blog post, tackling a new project today is "ill advised," possibly provoking unwanted, long-term consequences. Apparently, just about anything you want to do today will be a frustrating feat, more difficult than partaking in the same activity on any other day of the year.

Basically, just stay put today. Grab some coffee, Netflix and chill and let the hours slowly tick away as we (finally) begin to approach longer, more light-filled days.
