Patience is a virtue—and it pays off!

If you’ve been waiting for Netflix’s Little House on the Prairie series, the wait is almost over. The show, which is based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical books rather than the 1970s TV show, premieres on July 9, but you can get a sneak peek right now!

Netflix’s publication, Tudum, put up the first few “nail-biting” minutes of the show to whet your appetite for the frontier-focused show.

You can watch it right here.

From showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine, the series follows Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life on the American frontier. According to Netflix, it is part family saga, part survival epic and part origin story of the West. The first season is specifically inspired by Little House on the Prairie, the third book in the series.

The sneak peek shows the sweet and exciting moments of the family’s trip west—something we didn’t get with the previous TV series—but also a harrowing moment. Opening with Laura’s narration, the first episode shows the family leaving their home in the woods of Wisconsin for more room and a fresh start. As they make their way west, we see them camp in new places until they arrive on the prairie. That’s when we see them attempt to ford a river and come dangerously close to losing it all, including their dog Jack.

“Something I hope people can take away: maintaining a sense of hope about the future is really additive to your life,” says Sonnenshine. “That’s how we use it in the first episode — to set us on a path of understanding what the show is about and what it has to offer.”

Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry) is Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey (Elvis, Hacksaw Ridge, Little Fires Everywhere) is Laura’s father, Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald (Crime 101, Palm Royale) plays Laura’s mother, Caroline Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes (I, Object) is Mary Ingalls, Laura’s older sister.

Little House on the Prairie, which has already been renewed for a second season, couldn't have a better team behind it. Executive producers of the series include Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition and Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions. Netflix says Friendly’s father, Ed Friendly, produced the original Little House TV films and series.

Catch it when it comes to Netflix on July 9.
