Prime Video is about to debut yet another banger of an anime—a new adaptation of The Ghost in the Shell.

You may have seen the live-action film with Scarlett Johansson or the original 1995 film by Mamoru Oshii, or maybe you're a fan of the 1989 manga. Regardless, this new adaptation is set to be the best yet. Produced by award-winning animation studio Science SARU, best known for the Golden Globe-nominated film Inu-oh, the TV anime series Dandadan and the critically acclaimed movie The Colors Within, the new series is directed by Mokochan (Dandadan) and scripted by EnJoe Toh (Godzilla Singular Point).

If you're new here, Ghost in the Shell is a cyberpunk sci-fi story about the cyborg Motoko Kusanagi and the combat unit she leads in the fight against cybercrime. According to Prime Video, while commanding her team, she envisions a specialized task force to preemptively strike against emerging threats and is ultimately recruited to a similar unit within the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The offensive tactical unit known as "Shell Squad" confronts complex cybercrimes and international conspiracies, and a mysterious hacker only known as The Puppet Master. "What fate awaits Kusanagi? And what is the Puppet Master’s true objective? A new era of cyberpunk action begins."
