It’s been a big year so far for Vancouver. After landing a spot on both the world’s top 50 cities list and the world’s coolest streets, and with the countdown on to opening day for Time Out Market Vancouver, there’s even more good news to share.

Canada 100 has just revealed its best bars from coast to coast, and Vancouver has not only made a strong showing with eight venues on the list but has secured third place on the lauded round up.

What bar took out third place?

16-year old Vancouver institution The Keefer Bar in Chinatown has a playful drinks menu with Chinese medicine-style concoctions. Find funky ingredients like clarified tofu mixed in with rum, or more straightforward drinks like a Pineapple Daiquiri. There’s live DJs on music duties and a menu with dim sum and dumplings, sourced from their Chinatown neighbours.

What other bars made the list?

Prophecy

This swanky cocktail bar applies storytelling and cocktail science to craft their drinks menu which is divided into the four major flavours of Spiritous, Refreshing, Lush and Herbaceous.

Lala

Housed inside of June on Cambie Street (recently ranked one of the coolest in the world), slip past the velvet curtains to this downstairs listening bar where stellar cocktails and great vibes await.

Botanist

An intimate bar with a glass-fronted laboratory where cutting-edge cocktail science turns nature into edible drinks.

Laowai

Tucked behind the faux-garage frontage of Chinatown dumpling spot Blnd Tger – soon to open a new outpost at Time Out Market Vancouver – you’ll find Laowai, a slick speakeasy boasting Canada’s largest collection of baijiu.

Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions

With nostalgic burnt-orange carpets your grandparents would approve of, cocktails like Hot Girl Shit and crispy tater tots served in a lunchbox, this place ticks every box.

Bagheera

Behind a horse-race bookie-style façade you’ll find this hidden speakeasy, where you have to place a bet on King Louie to get inside.

Find this moody cocktail bar along the well-trodden Main Street, where the meticulous drinks program focuses on bold Vietnamese flavours.
