Tucked away on a quiet canal behind the La Fenice opera house, 12-room AD Place mixes a friendly atmosphere with great service in bedrooms and public spaces, which revel in a wild combination of candy-stripe colours and baroque touches. Rooms (spread over four floors with no lift) vary in size: some of the standard rooms are fairly small but the top floor suite, with its canopied bed in the master bedroom, is suitable for families, as is a ground-floor room that is wheelchair-adapted.
The hotel’s private water entrance means you can get straight here by water taxi. The glorious roof terrace is a great place to watch the sun set. AD Place has recently expanded its self-catering side, bringing to seven (three of them opening in 2017) the number of its elegant- with-a-twist apartments sleeping up to six people. In low season, the hotel slips into the moderate category.
