Though décor is sparse at this no-frills beer garden, you can’t possibly miss it thanks to a gigantic mural of Elizabeth Taylor painted on the neighboring building. Inviting picnic tables and a smoke-free patio attract families (kiddos are welcome), dogs and pretty much anyone who enjoys being outside in nice weather (read: everyone). The beer list skews German, and drafts are available in glass boots. A planned expansion into the restaurant next door means soon guests will not have to depend on porta-potties.

DC has a small window of perfect summer weather, and there's nowhere else I'd rather spend it. Order huge steins of beer and relax on the patio over small snacks. Yes, it gets crowded, so just get there early.
Dacha beer garden is the BEST! Seriously, in the three cities I’ve lived in and the many more I’ve visited, my favorite is Dacha. It is so centrally located in Shaw, and I love how unassuming it is: It sits on the corner of Q and 7th, has gravel floors and picnic tables and string lights, and there’s a wrought iron fence around the whole place. Dacha is outside, so it does get pretty chilly up to when it closes, but there’s a fire pit to keep you warm. The place has changed since it first opened: The bar was much smaller and there wasn’t the bug space in back where the outdoor toilets are now. Also, you’re allowed to bring in outside food. The beer list isn’t huge, but I like a simplified menu, and the options are always on point.
