Poste

Poste, part of the Monaco Hotel, is set in the restored sorting office of the 1841 General Post Office, which explains the high ceilings and skylights: they made it easier for the letter sorters to read addresses. The courtyard—reached through a long arcade that was designed for horse-drawn mail wagons—is one of the loveliest outdoor spots in DC. Cocktails are full of fresh herbs and vegetables—like the Basil Lemontini, courtesy of the hotel’s herb garden.

The food is good, but the main reason to go to Poste is for the lovely patio. The space is sprawling and glows with light at sunset—order sparkling wine or cocktails and relax after a long day.
