Poste, part of the Monaco Hotel, is set in the restored sorting office of the 1841 General Post Office, which explains the high ceilings and skylights: they made it easier for the letter sorters to read addresses. The courtyard—reached through a long arcade that was designed for horse-drawn mail wagons—is one of the loveliest outdoor spots in DC. Cocktails are full of fresh herbs and vegetables—like the Basil Lemontini, courtesy of the hotel’s herb garden.
