Time Out says

This beloved neighborhood watering hole has been a pregame mainstay for years. Located in upper Columbia Heights, Red Derby is a little nicer than a true dive and has a true community feel. Come for the sub $10 drinks, and stay for the friendly atmosphere.

The vibe: Relaxed and fun. This is the perfect spot for a casual catch up sesh with friends or a rowdy pregame. The split level means there's plenty of seating, and the vibe is very communal and friendly.

The drink: If you're a beer drinker or someone looking to drink for minimal money, Red Derby is your spot. Beer prices are so reasonable—$4.50 Natty Bohs, $3 PBR’s and a $6.50 Tecate and tequila beer/shot combo—they’ll make you do a spit-take. Not sure what to get or with a group? Opt for the $25 Lucky Bucket, which comes with six beers. The $7 espresso martinis, available from 5-7pm on Friday and Saturday, aren't bad, either.

The food: The food isn't the main star at Red Derby, but the bar bites are passable and tasty. I'm partial to the chicken tenders, which are crunchy and juicy (and half price on Tuesday).

Time Out tip: Red Derby is your spot if you like to be entertained. There are communal board games and well-attended weekly trivia nights, plus movies that are projected onto the walls of the upper floor.
