Capella

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding this new luxury opening along the C&O Canal. Public spaces are a stylish riff on the deeply traditional, with lots of dark, polished wood and marble lifted by flashes of modernity; in the Capella Living Room, for example, the gentlemen’s club feel of dark wood panelling is given a twist by a floor-to-ceiling strip of flecked marble surrounding a modish fireplace. Elsewhere, well-placed pieces of contemporary art have a similar effect. Guestrooms continue the dark wood theme, with sophisticated furnishings in cream, taupe and brown. Bathrooms are very well appointed. The rooftop bar has stunning views of Georgetown and the city; there’s an infinity pool here too.
