West End. Foggy Bottom. Georgetown. The nexus of all three of these neighborhoods meet at the Fairmont Washington, D.C. Georgetown hotel, and with its swivel doors, bellhops, and lobby greeters awaiting to welcome the gamut of travelers, it ticks all the boxes of a charmingly classic hotel.
There’s a surprising amount of community-driven events hosted here–a couple occurred less than 24-hours during my stay–that span the calendar year like Nutcracker Afternoon Tea, which create a consistent mingling buzz and jovial energy between staff, locals, and guests. Here’s why you should stay.
Why stay at Fairmont Washington D.C. Georgetown?
For its consistency and dependability. It brings brand-name recognition and makes for an elevated choice with proximity to the capital’s main museums and memorial sites. If you’re enticed by the grandeur of old school sentiment, it’s stately in all regards, so much so that it was the film location for the Hollywood blockbuster, Enemy of the State. Dignified with its neo-classic interiors, the marble is the design throughline and a metallic palette of gold, silver, and copper tones are embraced.
Many amenities are touted for the guest that might need to crash here after a heavy day of meetings—or if you need to take a meeting—with the peace of mind that every room comes equipped with a proper desk and chair.
I don’t have a furry friend, but if you’re inclined to travel with a pet, the hotel goes out of its way to embrace this companion choice, and dolls out treats and even hosts a “Howl-o-ween” costume competition event.
What are the rooms like at Fairmont Washington D.C. Georgetown?
The 415 rooms that span six types and varying suite options all skew serious and clearcut. There’s no whimsical design flourishes because, after all, you might be taking an important business call within the walls. My King Gold room faced street-side and stared into a competing hotel’s facade and branded bright lights, but others came with a balcony overlooking the central courtyard. Hung artwork isn’t there to make a statement but instead emphasize the muted metallic shades and complement the faux pebble leather cream bedframe with its studded, pintucked headboard.
You can’t escape the marble here, the bathroom is clad in it and frames the Le Labo toiletries and chrome hardware that seemed exceedingly shiny in its newness.
Mini fridges aren’t offering anything too crazy from the soda and alcoholic standards, but a word to the wise: the fridge is sensor-activated with a purchase mechanism. There’s also no room to store and keep cool your personal drinks with a deterrent sticker to call-out telling you not to for possibility of spillage (there must have been quite a mess made once to warrant such a specific sticker).
Remember when all rooms came with manual night stand clocks? No? I don’t either. But you’ll find one complete with audible ticking, if you listen closely, alongside that trusty pad of paper and pen that seems to shuffle around the room without ever getting its proper use.
What is the food and drinks like at Fairmont Washington D.C. Georgetown?
There are a few options for dining on-site, but they’re all geared toward the more casual fare of burgers or an heirloom beet salad and mostly ideal for breakfasts, lunches, or small snacks. Juniper, a morning to mid-afternoon modern American fare menu, offers up your traditional breakfast buffet of pre-cooked eggs and pastries, while the brunch menu leans on the heavier side of plates with a breakfast Reuben. Even the salad, a Southwestern one, boasts six ounces of Sirloin steak to beef up the oranges, the avocado, feta and cilantro vinaigrette.
The Courtyard Bar and Loggia Bar share the same menu, and the only difference between the two is setting. The former allows for outdoor weather ambiance of cherry blossom trees while Loggia leans in more for the casual meeting with food as an afterthought. If you’re short on time and can’t venture out, then I recommend the Green Key Burger that highlights the hotel’s five Green Key certification with a plant-based patty and green goddess dressing on a brioche bun as well as the Black Tie Affogato, a boozy version of the Italian dessert with Frangelico and a coffee liquor.
Many guests are part of the Fairmont Gold program, which offers a dedicated lounge for an all-day supply of non-alcoholic beverages, an honor bar, pastries for nibbling, and a breakfast array of options like chicken sausage and fig bread pudding with requisite corn flakes, greek yogurt and berries. If you’re a Fairmont frequenter, it’s a perk worth aspiring to.
What is the service like at Fairmont Washington D.C. Georgetown?
The service is extremely friendly, and every staff member I encountered had a genuine smile on their face. Nightly turn down service is included that comes with sustainable boxed water.
For those who need their regular gym routine but don’t want to worry about packing extra workout wear, the hotel has partnered with Reebok to supply guests with gym attire and even running shoes in personal sizes.
The concierge can help arrange a run path that takes you on the historic sights of Georgetown and around the National Mall or nature paths in Rock Creek Park. If you would like the breezy pleasantry of sightseeing by two wheels, bicycles can be rented. And in compliance with treating all guests as important, the V.I.P. (Very Important Puppy) program provides extra touches for all accompanying pet sizes.
What is the gym like at Fairmont Washington D.C. Georgetown?
The gym is full-service and also acts as a Foggy Bottom Balance neighborhood gym, so locals come and go alongside hotel guests partaking in cutting-edge weight machines, spin or yoga classes, or the extreme end of workouts with CrossFit. For your post-workout, there’s an indoor saltwater pool, whirlpool, and sauna as well as steam rooms to unwind and relax while high on endorphins.
What’s the area like around Fairmont Washington D.C. Georgetown?
Rock Creek, which cuts through the entire city is two blocks away and leads to Georgetown, the oldest city neighborhood. Its historic cobblestone sidewalks are filled to the brim with college-age students leisurely enjoying their study breaks from the nearby campus. While the Fairmont itself sits surrounded by similarly-priced hotels and a Nobu restaurant one block away, the upscale area keeps a low-key vibe with the youthful Georgetown scene.
Why should you book a stay at Fairmont Washington D.C. Georgetown?
Consistent with the brand’s level of luxury, it’s reliable and dependable. You can count on the service to provide for your last minute business meeting or scheduled drinks. There’s no hassle if traveling with a non-service pet. If you need a private and quiet lounge to tuck away to, or if on the off chance you need a printer (analog sometimes is a necessity), the price of your stay delivers when in a potential travel pinch.
