The Roost South African Wine Fest

South African wine deserves more attention than it usually gets, and this afternoon at The Roost is a good excuse to broaden the rotation. The South African Wine Fest brings 30 wines to the Capitol Hill food hall for a walk-around tasting, spanning sparkling, white, rosé and red pours from producers working across the country’s established and newer wine regions. The useful part is that this is not a tasting where you have to commit to a bottle based on a label and a guess. Wine pros will be pouring throughout the afternoon, and the ticket includes access to a bottle sale with event-only pricing, giving you a chance to revisit favorites before deciding what comes home with you. For anyone who already has a favorite South African bottle, or suspects they should, this is a particularly worthwhile Sunday detour.
