Long before Nathan's, there was Feltman's. Founded by Charles Feltman, widely credited with inventing the hot dog in a bun, the restaurant doled out snappy franks to Coney Island beachgoers from 1867 to 1954 (fun fact: Nathan Handwerker, who would later go on to open his own neighborhood icon Nathan's Famous in 1916, was trained at Feltman's).

Now the legendary frank spot is getting a comeback, thanks to Coney Island historian Michael Quinn, who will host a Feltman's pop-up at Ditmas Park bar Sycamore on May 26th. On offer will be two varieties of hot dogs, including the original Coney Island red hot that Feltman served back when (available in both pork and beef). If all goes well, Nathan's might have a little beach-eats competition coming, as Quinn is hoping to bring the restaurant back to Coney Island permanently.
