Glitterballnyc.com NYE 2015

Critics' pick

The top brass at Glitterballnyc.com must have forgone their holiday bonuses to put this local superstar bill together for their second annual East Williamsburg NYE celebration. Appearances from Willie Burns (L.I.E.S.), Beats in Space man Tom Noble, Dan Selzer (a.k.a. New York Endless), duo Soul 2 Seoul, Aural Dreams radio host Ex Ex Ex and resident DJ/man-about-town Facets.

No Ordinary Monkey

Critics' pick

Golf Channel's Phil South and Ghost Note's Anton Esteban have been throwing their NOM parties for 10 years now and never disappoint. The Dec 31 jam takes the cake though, with a live set from husband-wife-and-sometimes-son psych-poppers Peaking Lights and ’70s gospel-disco stars Joubert Singers performing "Stand on the Word" at midnight! #nomnomnom

Goodbye, Glasslands!

Critics' pick

We can’t tell you exactly who you’ll catch if you shell out for this all-surprises bill, the last night of music at beloved Williamsburg show spot Glasslands. But at least you can tell your friends you were present at the end of an era—Glasslands is currently the final holdout in the now Vice-occupied complex that once housed 285 Kent and Death by Audio. And given the venue’s track record of hosting the finest in indie pop, cutting-edge R&B and connoisseur-friendly electronica, this gig is absolutely worth rolling the dice on.

Cameo New Year's Eve 2015!

Critics' pick

Williamsburg's Cameo, or as we like to call it, the Little Club That Could, hosts the nine-person band Midnight Magic, possibly the most perfectly named outfit to ever play a ball drop. The local disco combo will be performing live, but there's plenty of hot DJ action as well, with Storm Queen/Metro Area's Morgan Geist, Museum of Love/LCD Soundsystem's Pat Mahoney, Beats in Space Records' Jee Day, Other People's Dave Harrington & Friends, along with multi-instrumentalist Motion Studies, and Brooklyn Bass man Evan Michael all slated to spin in the venue's two rooms.

Brooklyn Bowl New Years Eve (Early)

Bowling on New Year's Eve? It's an entirely novel way to celebrate the turn of the calendar. This year might as well split. (Sorry, we couldn't help ourselves. )

Brooklyn Bowl New Year's Eve Washed Out DJ Set (Late)

Critics' pick

Sub Pop artist Washed Out (né Ernest Greene) stops by Brooklyn Bowl for a rare DJ set of gauzy beats starting postball-drop, so come ring in the New Year by picking up a spare and keeping your mind out of the gutter.

Murray Hill’s New Year’s Eve Late Show

Critics' pick

NYC's favorite drag king carries on his annual pageant with an A-grade lineup in tow: Burly-Q beauty Dirty Martini, singer extraordinare Bridget Barkan, comedy-dance duo Kitten LaRue and Lou Henry Hoover, boylesque star Mr. Gorgeous and Neal Medlyn (in his Champagne Jerry guise) entertain the audience until the big countdown to the dollar-store-balloon drop. The fun continues with a dance party (with DJ Half ’N Half, otherwise known as Hill, on the decks), and the opportunity to corner one of the performers for a smooch.

The best New Year's Eve Singles party I've been to is the one hosted by OnSpeedDating. I actually ended up meeting my fiancé at their New Year's Eve Party in 2012. If you're single and looking for somewhere to ring in the New Year I highly recommend their event. The key is to purchase tickets early or you'll get stuck paying full-price. They usually offer an early-bird special. http://www.OnSpeedDating.com
