Time Out says

Since 1986, The Barrow Group (TBG) has been known for its critically acclaimed theater productions and stellar theater training programs. TBG offers acting classes to children and adults of all skill levels, though their more advanced programming does include an audition process. Their productions frequently highlight the importance of current social and political issues, aiming to increase empathy and add a sense of community to all of their projects.

Some of the most notable alumni from the program include Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway and Tony Hale, star of Veep and Arrested Development

Artists can look forward to a wide variety of programming when attending TBG. There are beginner actor workshops, improv classes, introductory filmmaking courses, and playwriting intensives. For example, they offer a course called Beginner Acting I: The Basics. Over a series of eight weeks, adult actors will learn how to make their performances appear natural and spontaneous. They will participate in a variety of improv games designed to build trust with their co-actors, as well as scene studies and script analyses.

Additionally, there are kids acting camps, tween acting camps, and beginner improv lessons available at TBG. There are also several courses that discuss musical theater performance, which often requires different skills than acting in plays or for film/television. The school also offers a few year-long programs for aspiring actors and directors. TBG can also provide corporate performing workshops for businesses looking for a unique team-building opportunity.

Previous students of TBG frequently report that the classes are informative and helpful, with actionable feedback and constructive criticism being delivered respectfully. Beginners especially praise the programming as being the perfect start to an acting career. The instructors are engaging, passionate, and do an excellent job reminding their students to be playful as they learn. Teachers are also described as being thoughtful in their approach to beginner students, helping them quickly identify and build on their strengths and talents.
