New York City is a tough place to find an apartment, as we all know. Everyone panics that they aren’t getting enough for their money, which is why we’re taking a weekly look at what you can get in this town for around $1,000 per person (and we promise there’ll be no nightmare apartment listing). No one wants to end up in the world’s most depressing apartment (and equally, not everyone has the cash to get the kind of place Obama could afford to rent if he moves to New York), so take a look at these attractive, spacious places—but do it quickly, because these will be gone before you know it. Come back next week for more of our top picks from real-estate site Zumper’s inventory.

And if you’re still struggling, try our NYC apartments guide.

Madison St #2D

Two-bedroom in Two Bridges, $2,850/month ($1,425 each)

This sunny LES apartment boasts windows in every room—including one looking directly into the shower. Fans of soapy exhibitionism, this one's for you! Also, judging from the pictures, those floors look freshly waxed and ready for some Risky Business–style dancing in your underwear and socks. If dancing and showering for voyeurs isn’t your thing, than the open floor plan, high ceilings, and nearby subway station may convince you that an investment in some curtains or blinds are totally worth it.

588 Myrtle Ave #203

Three-bedroom in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn; $3,125/month ($1,042 per person)

Bed-Stuy may not be the most convenient neighborhood if you work in Manhattan, but this new building has amenities you previously only dreamed of including a fitness center, furnished rooftop, cinema room and—get this—a billiards room. We didn’t even know that was a thing! The apartment itself has some beautiful features like stone countertops, stainless-steel appliances, and—because it’s fancy—crystal chandeliers. The bathroom looks like it deserves a techno party with a “European-style bathtub” that is lit glowing purple. Because really, when your building has a billiards room, you need a place to celebrate.

Second Ave #7A

Three-bedroom in the East Village, $4,375/month ($1,458 per person)

This apartment is not only in the heart of the East Village (Second Ave at 8th St) but it also has a washer/dryer unit. What else could you ever possibly want? Yeah, according to the floor plan, one of the bedrooms doesn’t have a closet and yes, the radiators and pipes are painted a fire-engine red, but will you be complaining when you’re folding your freshly washed laundry under a beautiful ceiling fan? No. Besides, with a location near so many cafés, restaurants, bars and shops, it’s doubtful you’d want to stay inside no matter how nicely the apartment’s been renovated.

E 95th St #4C

Three-bedroom on the Upper East Side, $3,650/month ($1,217 per person)

The listing explains that the kitchen is “perfect for those who love to cook, or just love yo [sic] eat,” a description that—in this case—seems to apply to any room that has an oven, sink and fridge. However, what the apartment lacks in counter and cabinet space, it makes up for in close proximity to good grocery stores (Fairway, Whole Foods) and to plenty of restaurants. The listing wants you to know these dining establishments include Papaya King, in case hot dogs are a selling point for you. You won't have to worry about eating your takeout in front of your roommates, though—the bedrooms seem pretty spacious for this part of town.

E 7th and 8th St #3

Five-bedroom in Brooklyn Navy Yard, $3,650/month ($730 per person)

Are you and four of your buddies into riding bikes and/or the bus? Then this apartment might be perfect for you. While the location may be a 15-minute walk away from the nearest subway station, it's a quick ride to Fort Greene, Downtown Brooklyn, Williamsburg and even Prospect Park. The apartment has been newly renovated with some sharp-looking appliances, and with two bathrooms the roommate drama should be at a minimum. The roof access doesn’t look too swanky in gray February, but you and your buddies will appreciate the riverside breeze come spring.
