This multipurpose, split-level pizzeria, restaurant and wine bar, with a kitchen shop and bookshop next door, is the granddaddy of the Roman design bunch - the only problem being that, though the interior spaces are great, it's looking rather crumbly these days. The location is ideal: on a warm evening, sitting outside eating a competent pizza and drinking good wine while looking across at the new Ara Pacis museum is extremely pleasant. And the lunch buffet served in the pizzeria area is abundant and good. But the overpriced fusion food in the upstairs restaurant is mediocre, the Conran c1980-style decor is in need of a makeover and, on a recent visit, the buzzing, stylish winebar out the back - always the part of this establishment we liked best - didn't have the first five bottles we asked for.
