This historic osteria at the piazza del Popolo end of via di Ripetta began life in the 18th century as a carriage garage for local aristocrats. For years it operated as a takeaway enoteca (wine shop) with a few wines available by the glass at the marble counter; but recently tables have been arranged among the high wooden shelves, and in a little room behind, for full meals. There are always three or four pasta dishes or soups, followed by a range of meaty seconds and creative salads. The cooking is more than competent, the prices extremely reasonable, and the service friendly.
