Rome's best pizzeria? We certainly think so. The 'greedy she-cat' steers a middle course between puffy-rimmed Neapolitan and flat and crunchy Roman, using a special semi-wholemeal dough that spends 48 hours in the fridge, ensuring a slow and healthy rise. Small but filling, the pizzas are a tad more gourmet than the Roman average - courgette, anchovy, pachino tomato and mozzarella di bufala is a typical example. They also do reasonable pasta dishes and salads, and some simple but effective home-made desserts (including a moreish coffee mousse); but these are very much satellites of the pizza planet. The ambience is bright, chatty and neo-rustic, with plenty of cat-themed mementos and artwork. On Wednesdays and Thursdays there are wine and pizza tastings for groups of at least four. In the backwoods of Monteverde, this pizza mecca is a little out of the way - but worth the journey; it is easily reached by taking the No.8 tram from largo Argentina (get off at piazza San Giovanni di Dio). But book ahead: it's hugely popular.
