Il Gelato di San Crispino serves what many consider to be the best ice-cream in Rome - some say in the world. The secret is the makers' obsessive control over the whole process. The flavours on offer change according to what's in season - in summer the lampone (raspberry) and susine (yellow plum) are fabulous. Cones would interfere with the purity of the product: only tubs are allowed. The original branch is out in the sticks; the central branch has the advantage - over and above its location - of offering exquisite Jamaican coffee. On Fridays and Saturdays in summer San Crispino remains open until 1.30am.

I Return from bolsena today where I ate 3 or four ice cream per day. just arrive today to Roma and went to san crispino. Few words i can say: ice creams just average (I tried 3) and the service TERRIBLE!!! They treat us as they were doing us a favor. Prices obviously above everywhere.
If this is the critic's choice you have to wonder how much research the critic has actually done
I agree with the Jul 6 2011 post. We were in Rome a couple of weeks ago and went here, based on the glowing review above, to be served by an Asian fellow who went out of his way to offend. Grumpy Italians fed up with tourists is one thing, but to be mocked by a bloke that clearly hadn't lived there long himself is something else entirely.
The gelato itself was a bit rubbish as well - not sure what the July 7 post is on about. Overpriced and tiny serving sizes, and partially frozen with ice forming throughout. I really have nothing good to say about this place, little surprise that it was largely deserted each of the several times I walked past.
Amazing find. We shamed ourselves to visit San Crispino at the last day. The basic ones are the best - with honey or choc. It's very near best gellato we've ever tasted.
Not sure when this review was written, but having visited recently it would appear that this establishment is under new, non Italian management seeking to exploit the good name with a clearly inferior product. Avoid.
