Designed by Danish architects 3xNielsen, this is one of the most innovative musical complexes in Europe. Effectively a replacement for the IJsbreker, the Muziekgebouw retains its long-lasting favour for modern classical, jazz and world music. The programmers are pleasingly versatile: the weekly schedule typically bustles with all manner of musical delights, from cutting-edge multimedia works to music by composers from the last 150 years. The Grote Zaal (Main Hall) is completely adaptable; the rather smaller BAM Zaal and foyer host more intimate concerts.
