America's First Gay Marriage says
The first legally-married gay couple is coming to Atlanta to release their memoir, The Wedding Heard 'Round the World; America's First Gay Marriage. Jack Baker and Michael McConnell found a way to marry in 1971 - over 40 years before the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling - with a state-issued marriage license and a Methodist minister. Their remarkable story was featured on the front page of the Sunday New York Times in May. Now chronicled in their new memoir, Library Journal called their book a "charming debut." In this free program, the couple will talk about their role in the early gay rights movement, a time of turbulence and passion. They'll be joined by Gail Karwoski, the Georgia writer who helped them tell their story. Book sales by Charis Books.
