One night in Brooklyn in 2012, two friends, Kate Faust and Kate Linhardt, decided to make some art. 30 minutes later, Dem Bones was born, an irreverent ode to heartbreak. With more time came more beers, and BLKKATHY began crafting alternative feminist R&B – outsider electronic unlike anything you’ve ever heard before or ever will.
Heavy bass beats and pop hooks underlie their essential vulnerability. BLKKATHY’s confrontational lyricism and unlikely melodies allow listeners an intimacy that is rare in contemporary music, the kind of candor that can make you both uncomfortable and excited.
