Carapace Raconteurs (And Raconteuses): Misfits And Outcasts And A New Start Time says
Hey, it's Randy at Carapace.

For the April show, bring your five-minute, true personal story about when you failed to find your place (or willfully jumped out of it). We know that a lot of our Carapeeps are a little eccentric, kinda individualist, you might even say bohemian. We want to hear about when your uniqueness got you into good or bad trouble, at home, work, or school. Or, of course, in love.

I guess the April theme came to me because I've been reading a lot of the once-striving author Violette Leduc, who wrote to Simone de Beauvoir, "I am a desert talking to myself." De Beauvoir then pointed out, "I have encountered beauties beyond reckoning in deserts. And whoever speaks to us from the depths of his loneliness speaks to us of ourselves." (Just make it funny if possible, right?)

Also, Venkman's has asked that we move the show up slightly to accommodate the jazz show afterward, so please note we're starting at 7 p.m., which is a half hour earlier than the show used to begin. But! We're going all the way to 8:30 so we can get in a full show and plenty of stories.

C'mon down with your home-brewed narrative of helpless or deliberate weirdness and/or vagrancy. Need not be a "beauty beyond reckoning," but audiences do accept those! Make reservations to ensure the best seat, and hang around for the music after, if you like. Quality and free.

Speaking of eccentric individualists and interesting people generally (also of beauty beyond reckoning): We love Lena Dunham. Quite the writer and actress, that one. We just found out that the season finale Sunday of her HBO series "Girls" features Lena telling a story at The Moth ... without notes, of course. Which turns out to be a problem, from the looks of things.

See you at Venkman's!
