Metropolitan Studios says
Contact Improvisation is a dance form based on physical principles of touch, momentum, shared weight and shared points of contact. The form was founded in 1972 by Steve Paxton, integrating his background as a modern dancer and his studies in the martial art form Aikido. This style of movement builds skills in falling, rolling, counterbalance, physical centering, using minimal effort to lift and be lifted, breathing and sensory listening techniques and responsiveness to our surroundings. Learn philosophies of this movement practice and apply skills in a mini-contact improv jam with Jo Peace and members of me.you.us.we.them.

Weekly Contact Improv Jams continue every Sunday from 6:30-8:30 pm. Skills-building warmup the first half hour of each jam is strongly recommended for those new to this dance form.
