The Wayward Souls evoke a Southern Gothic sound drenched in the harmony of Dark Americana. Mateo Alexander, Sergeant First Class, spent five tours of duty in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for the US Army. Being a commander of 40 men presented him with many characters and situations with which to fill the guitar tunes that have consistently jangled out of the San Francisco native since High School. Gripping and at the same time inspiring tales are accompanied by Edie Day's ethereal vocal harmony. Talented sidemen: Jonathan Griffin on fiddle, Stacey Cargal on lap steel and clawhammer banjo, Trey Gibbs on mandolin and guitar, and Doug Rolph on upright bass fill out the six-piece crew of souls who wander the drumless intersection of amplified bluegrass, southern swing blues, and the conundrum of the life Americana.
