Workshop Description

Inverse Tonal Drawing
In this workshop we will invert the usual tonal relationship in drawing by using white conte on black paper. Sighting from objects, we will execute preparatory sketches that focus on geometric relationships and then move on to our sustained study. This kind of tonal process- in which white or a light color is applied to a darker surface- was integral to many Renaissance techniques. Working with white on black will allow us to develop depth and dimensionality very quickly.

Jiha Arist Statement:
I chose artists who are active in the Atlanta art scene and beyond. Especially, guest artists who are also exploring the idea of "drawing" in their own practice, and are not limited to the traditional understanding and usage of the medium. There are painters, sculptors and mixed-media artists and more as guest artists. Draw@MOCA will be a flexible and fluid experience for people in terms of thinking, making and appreciating art, and understanding the concept of "drawing".
