Endangered Species Day says
More than 60 of Zoo Atlanta's resident species, from giant pandas to eastern black rhinos, are classified as threatened, endangered or critically endangered. The Zoo is actively involved in conservation projects around the globe, and we want to share these stories with you!

Join us as we highlight our planet’s endangered species, enjoy special keeper talks and family activities, and learn more about ways you can take action, from your own backyard to the corners of the world.

--Spot animals and test your knowledge with a fun, endangered species-themed game;

--Watch the animals enjoy special enrichment surprises while the kids enjoy crafts and activities;

--Learn about conservation work supported by Zoo Atlanta and partners;

--Say hi to Cricket the tree frog, Zhu Zhu the giant panda and their animal mascot pals;

--Grab your cape and visit Species Saver stations around the park to find out how you can be a hero for endangered wildlife!

--Remember to bring in your old cell phones for recycling at our Eco-Cell drop-off!


Endangered and critically endangered species around the Zoo will enjoy special enrichment as part of our efforts to highlight these species. Check out a few highlights below.

Eastern bongo (critically endangered) – 9:30 a.m.

Eastern black rhinoceros (critically endangered) – 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Black-and-white-ruffed lemur (critically endangered) – 10 a.m.

Long-tailed chinchilla (critically endangered) – 10 a.m. (Wieland Wildlife Home)

Lesser sulfur-crested cockatoo (critically endangered) – 1:30 p.m. (outside World of Wild Theater)

Giant panda (endangered) – 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Western lowland gorilla (critically endangered) – 2 p.m. (Habitat Three) and 2:30 p.m. (Habitat One)

Orangutan (Bornean orangutans are endangered; Sumatran orangutans, critically endangered) – 2:15 p.m. (Habitat Two)

Sumatran tiger (critically endangered) – 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Giant otters (endangered) – 2 p.m.

Activities will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free for Zoo Atlanta Members and children under 3; free with general admission. Endangered Species Day is a rain-or-shine event, but animal activities are weather-permitting.
